Cooper Headed to Nova Scotia

Cowichan Capitals third year forward, Steen Cooper, is one of ten BCHL players to represent Canada-West at the upcoming World Junior-A Hockey Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The 17-year-old was the lone Capitals player invited to the evaluation camp in Calgary this past weekend. Cooper collected two goals during the camp at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary.

Cooper, who is committed to Minnesota State Mankato for next season, is off to a strong start to the BCHL season with the Caps having scored two goals and 14 points in 19 games thus far.

The Duncan native joins nine other BCHL players on the Canada-West roster that include:

G – Jesse Jenks – Prince George Spruce Kings
D – Alex Plant – West Kelowna Warriors
D – Paul Stoykewych – Penticton Vees
D – Viktor Dombrovskiy – Langley Rivermen
D – Dane Birks – Merritt Centennials
F – Jeff Wight – Merritt Centennials
F – Demico Hanoun – Vernon Vipers
F – Alex Gillies – Salmon Arm Silverbacks
F – Kurt Keats – Powell River Kings

The ten BCHL players join 11 players from the Alberta Junior Hockey League, and one from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The tournament runs from November 4-10 in Yarmouth.
